Becoming a Poll Worker

Prior to each election, the Supervisor of Elections is required to appoint Election Board members who serve at precinct polling sites on Election Day.  Becoming a member of an Election Board is a way to express commitment to the community and to the democratic process.

A Poll Worker must:

• Be registered to vote in Volusia County
• Be able to read and write English
• Be at least 18 years of age
• Attend mandatory training session(s) before each election
• Be available to work from 6:00 am until after the polls close at 7:00 pm (most work is completed by 8:30 pm)
• Provide customer service to the public in a courteous and professional manner

Notes:

• Poll Workers serve at the will of the Supervisor of Elections
• Poll Workers cannot serve if an immediate family member is a candidate

Orientation sessions are scheduled periodically providing information regarding duties and responsibilities, hours to be worked, positions available, training classes and rates of pay. (Applicants are not compensated for the orientation session.)

Qualified applicants become a part of a pool of prospective workers. The number of persons needed for each election is determined by the size of the election and the expected turnout. You will be contacted in a timely manner to schedule training.
